Damian Collins OBE

Damian is former Minister for Tech and the Digital Economy and an international expert in digital competition and regulation. During his 14 years as a Member of Parliament, he played a leading role in the passage of the UK’s Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers  Act and Online Safety Act, and also chaired the House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport select committee, leading major inquiries into social media disinformation and the impact of addictive and immersive technologies. In 2021, Damian chaired the Joint Committee of the House of Lords and House of Commons which led the scrutiny of the Online Safety Act. Damian is now head of the public policy practice at Geradin Partners , where he helps tech, media and telecoms companies, and other organisations, to understand and navigate the political and regulatory environment in these areas, which can change quickly and in complex ways.

Tom Smith

Tom is a partner at Geradin Partners, having previously been Legal Director at the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). He led the legal team on the Digital Markets Taskforce, set up by the UK Government to advise it on the new regulatory regime for ‘digital gatekeepers’ such as Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon. At Geradin Partners, Tom represents a wide variety of broadcasters, news publishers, app developers, gaming companies, e- commerce sellers and other companies on digital regulation in the UK, the EU and other jurisdictions. He has been involved in most of the CMA’s competition law investigations and market studies in a range of sectors including tech. Tom was the only private practice lawyer to be invited to give testimony to the Public Bill Committee of the UK Parliament during the passage of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Bill.

David Gallagher

David is a Partner at Geradin Partners, advising large corporates in antitrust authority investigations. This includes work advising Corning in relation to an Article 102 EU investigation and other companies being investigated by the European Commission and CMA in relation to antitrust and consumer issues. David is also a key member of Geradin Partners’ class action team. Notable cases he advises on include multi-billion antitrust class actions against Apple, Google and Amazon in relation to app stores, ad tech and self-preferencing in Amazon marketplace. Previously David was Assistant Legal Director at the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). His  work included advising the antitrust team on its excessive pricing case on the generic drug Liothyronine, and on the CMA’s investigation of British Airways and American Airlines regarding the Atlantic Joint Business Agreement.

Mike Harris

Mike is founder and CEO of 89up, the world’s first cause communications agency for civil society and nonprofits. He is a seasoned expert in legislative campaigns: playing a pivotal role in the 2013 Defamation Act, helping the UK press stop section 40 of the Crime and Courts Act, and challenging UK and EU state surveillance through the Investigatory Powers Act. His advocacy experience includes delivering cross-party support for a new parliamentary bill; international human rights advocacy work engaging Hollywood celebrities that forced three banks to stop selling government bonds to support a dictatorship, leading the press and strategy for an Oscar-winning film, the exposure of lobbyists work for corrupt regimes and supporting the launch of multiple grassroots political movements.

Anna Simpson

Anna is a senior lawyer and policy advisor in the Geradin Partners London team, specialising in technology policy, competition and consumer law matters. She has represented multiple clients before the CMA in its digital markets investigations and advised on a number of other technology regulation matters, including the Online Safety Act and AI legislation. Prior to joining Geradin, Anna was Assistant Legal Director at the CMA, where she was lead lawyer on multiple enforcement cases, in a range of sectors and across competition and consumer tools. She started her career as an associate in the Antitrust Department at Clifford Chance, where she advised on a range of antitrust matters.

Hannah Craft

Hannah is an Account Director at 89up with extensive experience in litigation campaigns at both national and international jurisdictions. This includes a collective action brought against Microsoft in the CAT for anti-competitive behaviour and publicising a historic case at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, where the Commission of Small Island States on Climate Change and International Law successfully clarified states’ responsibilities to limit greenhouse gas emissions to protect the world’s oceans. In Australia, Hannah also worked with public interest litigation funder Grata Fund to publicise milestone human rights cases, and with Women’s Legal Services Australia on access to justice reforms.
